Inking Drawings: A Return to Pen and Paper
Who are you?
Hanif Janmohamed
What is your project?
My project is a return to the simple tools of pen and paper. I began inking drawings and posting on the Reluctant Illustrator blog. The work continues in its serendipitous fashion. Despite my sporadic presence on BSR - I’ve continued illustrating and posting, I designed and illustrated a book for Robert Zeitlin, I set up eCommerce and am selling decks of whimsical Postcards, and I contemplate expanding into Illustrated T-shirts. I’ve also been working on an Abecedarium, a book project on Food and Faraway places - so far I’ve traveled the globe (virtually) and inked my way to the letter T - for Tacos, from Mexico.

What will you ship at the end of 6 months?
I’m completing the Abecadarium project and intend to design and publish it as a book. The project is a self-generated thing that began life as an A-Z challenge.
I am interested in feedback on how the work gets received, and what it might evoke.
In creating the work and posting the letters and drawings to the Reluctant Illustrator blog, I included wandering stories and recipes and anecdotes as blog posts. Would these be interesting to include in the book? Or perhaps links to the blog posts with QR Codes? Or would a book of simple letters and drawings be more engaging?
My work generally seems to seek out a hybrid audience – I’m curious to get feedback on who readers might imagine the target audience could be - Grown-ups? Kids-at-heart? The Inner-child?
I’ll be exploring options for publishing. Could it be an Art Book? A Colouring book?
As always Thanks for indulging!!
