Finishing the Script for my Next Film

Who are you?

My name is Courtney Daniels, I’m an independent filmmaker, and my BSR project is to write the script for my next feature.

What is your project?

To write the script for my next feature. This is the logline for my script: Two 60-somethings meet for a blind date in NYC around the holidays.

I’m halfway through writing the script. I’d like to finish within 2 months. Then, I’ll start planning the shoot. For inspiration, I’ve envisioned actors Rene Props and Griffin Dunne in the lead roles.

Can we see some photos?

While working on it, I’ve enjoyed using a different part of my brain on a mini project:

Inspired by a book I discovered at the library, I am drawing all of the iconic Disney and Pixar characters. They are featured, along with cool how-to diagrams for creating them, in the book:

I am tackling the characters in the order they appear in the book. Each night, I sit down to draw just one. It has been a weirdly gratifying practice. I think because it’s challenging but attainable! It takes only about an hour, and it’s fun to text a finished drawing to friends and family. Being able to make a character look almost exactly like it does in the book makes me feel like I’m performing a magic trick.

I have asked myself why I am doing this mini-project, other than for the fun of it. Other Roadies have observed that it’s possibly priming the pump for my writing, and I agree. I would love it if it sparks inspiration for a new series of paintings. (I started painting with oils again during the pandemic.)
