Origami: Building a Consistent Creative Practice
Who are you?
Cara Policelli
What is your project?
My project (which has changed multiple times!) is to begin and maintain a consistent (almost) daily creativity practice. My tools for this have been writing and working on various origami projects. I started a blog that combines my enjoyment of writing and folding/unfolding paper as I write about the unfolding of small, daily moments (semi-corny pun intended, of course). I’m also experimenting with making origami boxes and lotus flowers out of recycled and uncommon materials, in addition to traditional handmade papers. I may one day want to share these creations with a wider audience but I’m still figuring that out and trusting the creative process as I move forward.
Can we see some photos?
Top Center Photo: I realized that I didn’t include a pic of what the majority of the process actually looks like (aka the messy messy middle mess) for me. So, here it is. Absolutely no tidying up before the picture. Ah!

Sample blog post:
A New Season (4/20/24)
The snow melted.
Clouds thinned.
And there,
blue sky.
This might be a new season.
I didn’t forget about the arrival of spring
but I didn’t remember, either.
Balancing between the two,
like sitting on a seesaw’s fulcrum
it wasn’t until the bursts of new blooms appeared
that I tipped into remembering.
Forsythia,
called ForCynthia as a kid.
Tulips,
like the ones my mother planted in front of our house.
Daffodils,
so perfect they look fake.
These just born flowers
flash echoes of the past.
And so,
I remember now.
What will you ship at the end of 6 months?
At the end of 6 months, I would like to be maintaining my creativity practice, publishing more blog posts and experimenting with new origami creations.
Any feedback you’d like?
The feedback I could use right now is encouragement and/or tell me your own thoughts on creativity!
